The District was delighted to be awarded a Bronze Eco District award in 2026.    You can see a link to the certificate below.  This is a marker on a journey and a record of certain goals having been achieved.   There is a long way to go to make environmental concerns and action high on the agenda of every church, circuit and at District level.

Although the Methodist Conference in July 2026 dropped the aspirational goal of the Methodist Church becoming net-zero carbon by 2030 this was more about being realistic than backtracking on the goal.  The urgency for us to take action has not gone away.

The District Environmental Policy can also be found below along with occasional District Eco Newsletters

The Eco Champion for the north of the District is Rev John Boardman. John is available to work alongside churches or circuits wishing to register as Eco Churches. Contact the District Office if you don't have the contact details for John. We have a vacancy for an Eco-Champion for the southern circuits of the District and would love others with an interest in environmental action to join the small working group.

Each circuit is encouraged to appoint a Circuit Eco-Champion. A template role outline is available to download below.

Churches and Circuits can now apply for funding towards eco improvements to their buildings.  Registration with Eco-Church is a requirement but is quite easy to do.  We also want to see your commitment to climate care written into your church or circuit mission policy.  A grant could also help pay for a energy survey for your building helping your church to develop a plan of action.
