Vacancy – Sustain Pioneer Worker

Barton, Brigg and Wolds Circuit is seeking to recruit a pioneer worker for the Sustain Projectwhich is part of the District's New Places for New People project. Could you be that person?

Sustain Pioneer Worker Background Information

What is Sustain?

Sustain is a pilot New Places for New People Community working in Sir John Nelthorpe Secondary School, Brigg with Year 7 and 8 pupils. The concept is to develop conversations around the UN's 17 Sustainability goals:

-No poverty
-Zero hunger
-Good health and well-being
-Quality education
-Gender equality
-Clean water and sanitation
-Affordable and clean energy
-Decent work and economic growth
-Industry, innovation and infrastructure
-Reduced inequalities
-Sustainable cities and communities
-Responsible consumption and production
-Climate action
-Life below water
-Life on land
-Peace, justice, and strong institutions
-Partnerships for the goals

Many if not all of these could be viewed through the prism of a Christian manifesto of social action based on biblical teaching. So the vision is to produce resources on a selection of these goals which include a Christian perspective/motivation. The resources would lead to conversations in a lunchtime club and an action programme that may take place out of school hours.

Another key element of Sustain is that considering the issues together and taking action in the company of Christians should enable young people to see the relevance of faith to their concerns. This becomes the starting point for Christian discipleship that is sensitive to the school environment and relevant to young people.

What will the Sustain Pioneer Worker do?

The Sustain Pioneer Worker will be the leader of a diverse team of people who put together resources, facilitate the lunch time club and support pupils in devising and carrying out action projects. The leader will pray for Sustain and lead on the evaluation of the work against the NPNP fruitfulness criteria.

What sort of person are we looking for?

It is essential that the Sustain Pioneer Worker is a practising Christian. They should be a team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative. The Pioneer Worker should have an understanding of secondary schools plus successful experience of working with the 11-13 age range in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
