I had a wonderful afternoon in Norwich yesterday representing the District at the welcome service for Rev Helen Hollands as the new Chair of East Anglia. It is also a year today that I was welcomed as Chair at a very rainy, but very joyous, Sidedoor Chapel in Grimsby.
I can hardly believe that 12 months have passed, it feels simultaneously years ago and just last week. There can be no more relying on 'rookie Chair' status, and yet there is always something new to learn.
This week also sees welcome services here in the District for Rev Robert Roberts, new Superintendent for Barton, Brigg and Wolds, and Rev Debbie Caulk, presbyter in the Epworth, Scunthorpe and Gainsborough Circuit and other circuits will welcome new ministers in other ways.
With the Methodist New Year just a week away we should remind ourselves of the words of the Charles Wesley hymn:
Come, let us anew
our journey pursue,
roll round with they year,
and never stand still til the Master appear.
(Singing the Faith, 460)
There are always new relationships to be encouraged, new things to learn, and new experiences of God to be had.
Every blessing for the new Connexional year.
