As far as we are aware only two churches in the Lincolnshire District have solar panels: Horncastle and Burton Road in Lincoln.  All the manses in Barton, Brigg and Wolds Circuit now have solar panels.

Burton Road installed their panels as part of a major refurbishment finishing in the first quarter of 2024.

For the period Jan to July savings were £892.07. Estimated payback since installation is already £4,500.

Here is a more detailed breakdown of the stats:

For 2026 period so far (Jan to July), we have been able to add the tariff import and export:

PV Generation = 5750kWh
Consumption = 6759kWh
Import = 3769kWh
Export = 2685kWh
Battery Charge = 1277kWh
Battery Discharge = 1202kWh

This translates into:

Income from Export = £401.36
Self use saving (not importing) = £490.71
Saving so far = £892.07

2024 8 months income = £1036

2025 income = £1319

The system cost in 2024 for 8.7Kw Solar PV and 10.65kWh battery was £15,000, so there has been £3247 income and savings so far in just over 2 years of running.  If we look at the pattern for 2026 import savings, then we can estimate payback so far is approx. £4500

Adding an additional battery, will enable us to power the building for longer in the evenings reducing the need to import, this is mainly as we have a full evenings with bookings.  The installation of air to air heat pumps in the hall, has been of a vast benefit to the users and especially with the solar/battery installation this runs at net zero, the additional battery will enable longer net zero running periods, increasing our self sufficiency, reduce our import and export.

Since installing in April 2024

PV Generation = 20938kWh
Consumption = 24864kWh
Import = 13759kWh
Export = 9580kWh
Battery Charge = 5065kWh
Battery Discharge = 4813kWh

Environmental benefits

Equivalent trees = 11.6
CO2 reduced = 20.88t
Coal saved = 8.38t

We have also joined the Energy Match club on Octopus https://octopus.energy/electric-match/club/ which uses local generation at a lower cost.
